2011 | 0 | Historically, sports cars were amongst the most unreliable of all vehicles. While early Caymans would occassionally suffer catastrophic engine problems, it was otherwise remarkably dependable. Since the problem was fixed in model year 2009, the car has been relatively rock solid. see full Porsche review |

No problems after 4 months of ownership. Ratings on this vehicle were outstanding in JD Power reviews. see full Porsche review |
2008 | 4dr SUV 405-horsepower 4.8L V8 6-speed manual AWD w/low range |
This car is to replace a vehicle I drove for 18 years. It needs to be reliable and serve my needs such as superior snow handling characteristics, available horse power at altitude and as I get older comfort and convenience features. This car is the only see full Porsche review |
2008 | 2dr Hatch 295-horsepower 3.4L H6 6-speed manual RWD |
The car has been bullet proof. Some say these cars are expensive to maintain and while iut costs more than a Honda Civic I've averaged less than 500 a year for maintenance and other than a flat tire I've never had to bring the car in unexpectedl see full Porsche review |
2007 | 2dr Hatch 295-horsepower 3.4L H6 6-speed manual RWD |
So far only routine maintenance has been required. Absolutely no issues at all after 15,000 miles. see full Porsche review |
2005 | 2dr Convertible 240-horsepower 2.7L H6 5-speed shiftable automatic RWD |
Consumer Reports rated it a Best Buy with better than average repair history. Owned for 3 years (bought new) and have had no major problems. Even for minor problems, if >1 day in the shop, they either gave me a loaner or a free rental car. see full Porsche review |

2007 | 2dr Hatch 295-horsepower 3.4L H6 6-speed manual RWD |
Unlike older 911s, this car, and its contemporaries, is built to a price point and some things are cheapened. A notorious example is the IMS, which synchronizes the cylinder banks and valves. The bearing it rides on can fail which can take the whole engine out. I don't know whether these engines will have the potential to reach 250k miles, like the old air-cooled engines. see full Porsche review |
2005 | 4dr SUV 247-horsepower 3.2L V6 6-speed shiftable automatic AWD w/low range |
It has been in the shop an average of once every 6 mos with electrical probs - a/c out twice, radio out once, signal lamp problem, check engine light see full Porsche review |
2002 | 2dr Convertible 217-horsepower 2.7L H6 5-speed shiftable automatic RWD |
these cars have a history of not getting high mileage without having major engine problems. and the cost to rplce the motor is more than the value of the car after repairs. so far I have not had major problems myself. see full Porsche review |
2002 | 2dr Convertible 217-horsepower 2.7L H6 5-speed manual RWD |
No complaints so far.Rumors of 2000 to 2008 motors have a 27 percent chance of blowing due to faulty design of a two piece crankshaft. However many ,many Boxsters have up to 175,000 on them see full Porsche review |
2001 | 2dr Convertible 250-horsepower 3.2L H6 6-speed manual RWD |
The M96 engine is known to virtually explode due to the IMS bearing issue. this can be avoided with (1) much more frequent oil changes than manufacturer recommends, plus analysis of oil and filter aftert every change. 5k miles instead of 15k miles, even with Mobil 1. There are after market upgrades to avoid the IMS failures. This can be done by most any independent Porsche mechanic and there are multiple products on the market. I recommend L&N Engineering's solutions 10 to 1 over any other fix, although it is the more expensive option. If you plan to buy a used Boxster, pre 2009, budget an extra 3000 for an IMS shafte upgrade or ceramic bearing replacement. You can then have years of trouble free engine performance. There is also a product called the guardian that will give you advance warning of an impending failure, but i RECOMMEND JUST GETTING IT FIXED! see full Porsche review |
