Everyone recognizes this face. Visiting the coke ovens and falls near Douglas, WV. Tackling some unpaved curves in the hills near Beallsville, OH.
Don't care for this color scheme? Hundreds of others are offered. Ride quite livable even on gravel roads.
Additional door makes for better proportions. On OH255. White, black, and red plus the split rear doors...there's a lot going on. Note coke ovens over roof.
Split rear "barn" doors, wriggling among the barns. Narrow width helps when the road isn't wide, with a stone wall on one side and a drop on the other.
Iffy materials and even iffier ergonomics, but chock full of style. All-black isn't a must. Many other color and trim options are available.
Small door provides a bit more access to tight rear seat. Nifty split "barn" doors open up to...not much space behind the second row seat.
Cargo shelf (not shown) can bring the rear cargo floor up to the level of the folded seats. More power than the front tires can handle in first gear.
Same distended nose with laid back headlamps as other current generation Minis. Low photo angle. A different Clubman I tested earlier, in a more attractive color.
Handsome but boring VW exterior styling. The new Clubman shares and platform and wheelbase with the new BMW X1.
The proportions appear most stretched with the base wheels. The Mini Hardtop has tighter proportions, and even it has a long nose compared to earlier Minis.
Probably the Clubman's most handsome angle. Notice cut lines for side-opening clamshell doors. How the doors open--neat?
Clubman interior with no options. Best materials and build quality yet in a Mini. Much fancier interior of a loaded-up Clubman.
Cleanly styled and solid but boring VW interior. Cleaner instrument panel styling than past Minis, though distinctive touches remain.
Ergonomics much improved over earlier Minis. The silly huge central speedo is no more. Standard driver seat has prominent non-adjustable lumbar.
Much more cargo space than in the Mini Hardtop. In line with compact hatchbacks. With the seats folded, the Clubman can carry nearly as much cargo as a Golf hatchback.
Unlike the rest of the car, not much design under the hood. Three cylinders turbocharged to yield 134 horsepower. Torquey in typical driving, not much up top.
