Ticking sound under load. Misdiagnosed as failing front right spindle. Further diagnosed as failing drive shaft segment between the transmission and the transfer case. Vehicle returned to service without addressing the drive shaft issue in order to make a warranty claim with the dealership. Ticking audible when accelerating from a stop on an incline when drivetrain under load diagnosed by independent repair shop as failing drive shaft segment between transmission and transfer case. Despite my informing the dealer service departing maintenance manager of this, they decided to troubleshoot the issue without taking this into consideration. After keeping my vehicle at the dealership for 5 days, they called and informed me that they had been struggling to isolate where the noise was originating from but had come to a consensus that the front right spindle was failing and would need to be replaced. I explained to the service manager that this diagnosis was very likely incorrect by virtue of the fact that the right front spindle had already been replaced the week prior, and reiterated what the previous maintenance shop had concluded was causing the noise after 4 days of troubleshooting and fault tracing. I explained to him for the second time that it was the aforementioned driveshaft, which he finally accepted and communicated to the floor mechanic. Later he called and informed me that they had inspected that drive shaft segment and indeed found abnormal wear marks which explained the noise, confirmed the fault which was originally given to them, and that the drive shaft and related components would need to be replaced. He informed me that the repair was covered under the extended warranty, but the parts needed to be ordered from the national Mopar parts distribution center. He explained that the global supply chain issues were indeed being felt by their system as well, and that while the parts would be ordered that day, he expected at least a week and a half delay before they would be delivered to them. I authorized the repair and accepted the vehicle back into service with the understanding that they would contact me once the parts arrived to schedule the maintenance repairs needed. This occurred 3½ weeks ago, and despite my making no fewer than a dozen calls per week to inquire, these parts have still not arrived as of this writing. |

21000 mi | Transmission stopped working. Had to get it towed to dealership. Transmission hose wasn’t properly seated, so it leaked transmission fluid slowly. Problem probably happened when car was assembled. The dealership seated the hose properly, which fixed the leak and they replaced the transmission fluid. Everything seems fine since. |

Wife received Service 4WD Message. Dealer replaced 4WD transfer case control module. Tested another 160-170 miles and returned car to us as fixed, safe. Service 4WD Light on again. Car stereo/Nav was cutting out while driving back to dealer -- this is what happened when car first died. Car is still at dealer at this point, we are filing for Lemon buyback. | |
2000 mi | Dealer replaced Transfer Case and selector switch - something about clutches being too tight as determined by Chrysler STAR engineers. Vehicle has been as designed since then, but was in shop for a LONG time with this one. |
2000 mi | Transmission shifting rough at times, felt like it was slipping at others. There is now a TSB out for this, but since Chrysler was buying it back and the dealer was 25 miles away, we just dealt with it until turn-in. |

41500 mi | Under warranty, Jeep replaced the transmission's valve body. |

11300 mi | Software upgrade |
6000 mi | CEL lit up on a cold dark night. Went to the dealer the next day. They said the transmission valve body needed to be replaced. Got car back 4 days later. Shifts much smoother. But transmission drain pan is leaking so I have to go back. |
9200 mi | SERVICE SHIFTER message appeared. Vehicle ran rough and could not shift into park. Left me stranded on the side of the road late at night. Towed to dealer for valve body replacement -- the second time this part was replaced. |
28087 mi | Paddle shifter activated on its own during normal driving, downshifted to first and stayed there. Could not cancel using the right paddle shifter. Shifting to Park and then back to Drive worked for a short distance but would happen again. Good thing I was on a side street when this happened. Towed to the dealer. You should have seen the faces of the tow truck driver and service writer when I explained the problem. Dealer called Chrysler Engineering, then replaced paddle shifter and entire steering column module (clock spring) over 7 days. |
16300 mi | hard 1/2 up and down shift, there's a "bump." Dealer performed TSB update replaced valve body/reprogrammed TCM. |

Took the Jeep into shop here in Winchester VA (Dealer: Safford of Winchester) to diagnose a problem with a very rough and clunky shift. They said I needed a $430 Transmission Flush service and that would resolve the problem. I agreed. However the problem still persist and now I am told that it’s the Rear Differential and it will cost $4350 to repair. For this and other reasons, I do NOT recommend anyone ever go to this dealer for service... they are HORRIBLE, |

Differentials (rear) rear diff engaging late, causing jerk in initial acceleration. Was found that when previous service had been done dealer tech did not add ELSD additive to fluids. fluid replaced in front and rear, proper additive used. |
16000 mi | Check engine light came on. Transmission code. Flash update only thing required. |
3000 mi | The torque converter seems to have a shudder during wide open throttle passing maneuvers. This is noticeable on back country roads. The dealer claims that the torque converter needs 6,000 miles to break-in. Others have reported issues. |
5000 mi | Transmission Shudder - Primarily WOT during a downshift between 40-50mph passing maneuvers. In this case I noticed it following the owners manual instructions during break-in. Originally reported at 1700 miles. |
7000 mi | Replaced front axle isolators to reduce transmission vibration and downshift shudder. Problem not resolved and in some cases was made worse. I was told that the shudder is now a normal characteristic of this vehicle. I was told the vehicle did not shudder early on because the torque converter does not perform normally for the first 2,000 miles; the shudder is now normal. |

Electronic differential. (To have gotten 170k miles out of it, I am very happy.) Because it was an E-diff, which is rather rare on Grand Cherokees, it took some days to find a used one worth buying and because of O'Biden Covidiocrasy suppression on shipping causing longer-than-normal delivery times, I'm actually OK with having had it sit in the shop for a week. |

104000 mi | Mandatory safety recall (software flash) of emergency brake had rendered the 4wd low to become inoperative. There are tons of online complaints about this. Jeep finally came out with an optional flash of their software that fixed it. If facing this google it thoroughly and bring supporting documentation. The dealer acted as if I didn't know what I was talking about and "never heard of it" despite the TSBs I brought. Luckily, the tech actually looked through the docs and performed the flash successfully in about 10 mins. And behold - the 4wd which hadn't worked for a year suddenly worked again. |

142000 mi US $2000 |
Front right axle seal was bad for a while and who knows how long front diff was running with virtually no oil. Rear pinion seal was bad and replaced a few years ago, but when changing rear diff fluid, clearly water was present and possibly for years in there. So as a preventative maintenance item, both the front and rear differentials were rebuilt (new ring & pinion, seals, front diff mount, rear axles). In reality all parts actually still looked good, but I wasn't going to chance it to tow things. Unfortunately the rear end ring and pinion whine was not resolved. it is definitely quiter, but still very pronounced with the Chrysler 8.25" diff. Possibly a higher-end R&P kit might have fixed it, but functionality and cheaper costs are my priority with this vehicle. |
