| 2013 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 140hp 2.0L I4 Diesel 6-speed automated manual FWD |
Averaging around 41mpg in the first week - my daily commute is 96 miles round trip. That mpg paired with the fun-to-drive factor made a VW diesel an easy choice for me over the hybrids I test drove. |
| 2011 | 4dr Sedan 115-horsepower 2.0L I4 6-speed shiftable automatic FWD |
While rated at only 32 MPG highway, I drove the Jetta roundtrip from Bakersfield, CA to Las Vegas, NV (300 miles each way, over 3 mountain passes) and the car returned 37 MPG at a cruising speed of 80 MPH. |
| 2010 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 140hp 2.0L I4 Diesel 6-speed automated manual FWD |
They say 30/42 MPG, I have NEVER seen below 34 mpg and that was trying to burn some fuel. Our first trip was to the Tri-state area in West NC. Hand calculated to 46.3mpg. We constantly get 42-43mpg on the highway, and 37-39 around town, which is 30mph driving. My wife and I both drive fast on the highway, On average the Cruise control is set between 75-85 (tends to be on the higher side). |
| 2009 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 140hp 2.0L I4 Diesel 6-speed automated manual FWD |
Exceptionally consistent. Even with auto, it gets between 42 and 45 mpg routinely. I drive efficiently, but it still can pull up sizeable hills at speed while carrying a considerable load. |

| 2006 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 100hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 6-speed automated manual FWD |
When I was in the market, fuel economy was my main criteria. Basically it came down to hybrid or diesel. Diesel won out due to its known life cycle as opposed to the unknown battery situation with a hybrid. |
| 2005 | 4dr Wagon turbocharged 100hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 5-speed shiftable automatic FWD |
50 miles to the imperial gallon |
| 2004 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 100hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 5-speed shiftable automatic FWD |
Around town, this vehicle averages roughly 37-39 mpg- not too shabby. However, one must consider the skyrocketing price of diesel fuel into this equation... |

Consistently get 45 - 50 mpg mixed city/highway |

20-22 mpg |
| 2008 | 4dr Sedan 170-horsepower 2.5L I5 5-speed manual FWD |
Worst in segment for the gas engine |
| 2008 | 4dr Sedan 170-horsepower 2.5L I5 6-speed shiftable automatic FWD |
Combined city/hwy is only low to mid 20 MPG |
| 2006 | 4dr Sedan 150-horsepower 2.5L I5 6-speed shiftable automatic FWD |
Thirsty in the city |
| 2004 | 4dr Wagon turbocharged 180hp 1.8L I4 5-speed shiftable automatic FWD |
Even when driving extremely conservatively, I have never been able to get much more than 30 mpg highway on this car, which seems low for a car of this size and power. A taller overdrive might help in this regard. |
| 2004 | 4dr Sedan 115-horsepower 2.0L I4 5-speed manual FWD |
It could be better-I average 27-28 MPG in mixed city/highway driving. |
| 2003 | 4dr Sedan 200-horsepower 2.8L V6 6-speed manual FWD |
My mileage during the winter was not too good. My daily commute is short, so the car barely gets to full operating temperature. My Civic Si did considerably better around town. |
| 2002 | 4dr Sedan 115-horsepower 2.0L I4 4-speed automatic FWD |
I average between 18-22. Not very good for an economy car. |
