| 2013 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 140hp 2.0L I4 Diesel 6-speed automated manual FWD |
Averaging around 41mpg in the first week - my daily commute is 96 miles round trip. That mpg paired with the fun-to-drive factor made a VW diesel an easy choice for me over the hybrids I test drove. |
| 2011 | 4dr Sedan 115-horsepower 2.0L I4 6-speed shiftable automatic FWD |
While rated at only 32 MPG highway, I drove the Jetta roundtrip from Bakersfield, CA to Las Vegas, NV (300 miles each way, over 3 mountain passes) and the car returned 37 MPG at a cruising speed of 80 MPH. |
| 2010 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 140hp 2.0L I4 Diesel 6-speed automated manual FWD |
They say 30/42 MPG, I have NEVER seen below 34 mpg and that was trying to burn some fuel. Our first trip was to the Tri-state area in West NC. Hand calculated to 46.3mpg. We constantly get 42-43mpg on the highway, and 37-39 around town, which is 30mph driving. My wife and I both drive fast on the highway, On average the Cruise control is set between 75-85 (tends to be on the higher side). |
| 2009 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 140hp 2.0L I4 Diesel 6-speed automated manual FWD |
Ability to get close to 50 MPG |
| 2009 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 140hp 2.0L I4 Diesel 6-speed automated manual FWD |
Exceptionally consistent. Even with auto, it gets between 42 and 45 mpg routinely. I drive efficiently, but it still can pull up sizeable hills at speed while carrying a considerable load. |
| 2009 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 140hp 2.0L I4 Diesel 6-speed automated manual FWD |
40-50 MPG higway, over 30 city. I expect better fuel economy when over 10-15k miles. |
| 2009 | 4dr Sedan 170-horsepower 2.5L I5 6-speed shiftable automatic FWD |
20 city - 25 hwy. |
| 2009 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 140hp 2.0L I4 Diesel 6-speed manual FWD |
On my first tank i am looking at approx 600 miles on a tank full of fuel (14.5 gals) |
| 2007 | 4dr Sedan 150-horsepower 2.5L I5 6-speed shiftable automatic FWD |
Averages about 25 mpg with my driving habits, but gets a little over 30 on the highway. |
| 2006 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 100hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 6-speed automated manual FWD |
Awesome highway mileage, never less than 42 MPG. |
| 2006 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 100hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 6-speed automated manual FWD |
When I was in the market, fuel economy was my main criteria. Basically it came down to hybrid or diesel. Diesel won out due to its known life cycle as opposed to the unknown battery situation with a hybrid. |
| 2006 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 100hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 6-speed automated manual FWD |
My Jetta TDI DSG regularly gets more than 40MPG |

| 2006 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 100hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 5-speed manual FWD |
The best in the market. Diesel is 10% cheaper than gasoline. On average diesel owners pay 30% less for fuel than those who pay for comparable cars with gasoline fuel. |
| 2006 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 100hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 6-speed automated manual FWD |
Great TDI fuel economy, Nearly 700 highway miles in a tank. |
| 2006 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 100hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 6-speed automated manual FWD |
Great TDI fuel economy: approaches 40 mpg in city and have registered 55+ highway under the right conditions. |
| 2006 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 100hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 6-speed automated manual FWD |
The Jetta TDI has an incredible amount of power, yet delvers phenomenal fuel economy. We can easily achieve over 1000km per tank. |
| 2006 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 200hp 2.0L I4 6-speed automated manual FWD |
I get up to 33 on the highway--above 70mph. I consider that amazing, given the power. |
| 2005 | 4dr Wagon turbocharged 100hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 5-speed shiftable automatic FWD |
50 miles to the imperial gallon |
| 2004 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 100hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 5-speed shiftable automatic FWD |
Around town, this vehicle averages roughly 37-39 mpg- not too shabby. However, one must consider the skyrocketing price of diesel fuel into this equation... |
| 2004 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 100hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 5-speed manual FWD |
Consistently get 45 - 50 mpg mixed city/highway |
| 2004 | 4dr Wagon turbocharged 100hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 5-speed manual FWD |
48 MPG |
| 2003 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 90hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 4-speed automatic FWD |
Average with automatic 39.5 mpg. In all types of driving. Have gotten as much as 44 mpg on long trips |
| 2003 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 90hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 4-speed automatic FWD |
Driven hard, I still get 31-32 mpg. driven like a normal human, I get 38-39. I really cant complain. |
| 2003 | 4dr Sedan 115-horsepower 2.0L I4 5-speed manual FWD |
Average between 30 and 35 mpg even when driven hard. |

| 2003 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 90hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 5-speed manual FWD |
Diesel get 50+ mpg highway - better than any hybrid. |
| 2003 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 90hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 5-speed manual FWD |
Sticker said 50 highway (for the 5spd diesel wagon) I averaged 48 over 40,000 of ownership, and I drove it like a rental car. |
| 2003 | 4dr Wagon turbocharged 90hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 5-speed manual FWD |
It gets better mpg than any other new wagon. |
| 2002 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 90hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 4-speed automatic FWD |
The diesel returns phenomenal fuel mileage. I have yet to achieve less than 40mpg with mixed highway/city, and am usually 42-47 for highway only. |
| 2002 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 90hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 5-speed manual FWD |
With the diesel engine (1.9L, mechanical fuel injection) and manual transmission, deliver 50+ mpg in mixed driving. 56-59mpg on highway running 60-70mph. |
| 2002 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 90hp 1.9L I4 Diesel 4-speed automatic FWD |
The diesel automatic gets 35-42 MPG. I have gotten 620 miles out of the 15 gallon tank. |

| 2004 | 4dr Wagon turbocharged 180hp 1.8L I4 5-speed shiftable automatic FWD |
Even when driving extremely conservatively, I have never been able to get much more than 30 mpg highway on this car, which seems low for a car of this size and power. A taller overdrive might help in this regard. |
| 2004 | 4dr Sedan 115-horsepower 2.0L I4 5-speed manual FWD |
It could be better-I average 27-28 MPG in mixed city/highway driving. |
| 2003 | 4dr Sedan 200-horsepower 2.8L V6 6-speed manual FWD |
My mileage during the winter was not too good. My daily commute is short, so the car barely gets to full operating temperature. My Civic Si did considerably better around town. |
| 2002 | 4dr Sedan 115-horsepower 2.0L I4 4-speed automatic FWD |
I average between 18-22. Not very good for an economy car. |
