Toyota Tacoma Fuel Economy: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2009 4dr Crew Cab 6ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic RWD
Even with the V6, the fuel economy hovers around 22MPG with mixed city/highway driving. A lot cheaper to refuel than a full size.
2008 4dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic 4WD, part-time w/low range
I thought the fuel economy, for a truck, was excellent. It gets 5mpg better than a Honda Ridgeline.
2007 2dr Regular Cab 6ft bed 159-horsepower 2.7L I4
5-speed manual RWD
Fuel economy was close to the best for the class. I get around 27/mpg at highway speeds.
2007 4dr Extended Cab 6ft bed 159-horsepower 2.7L I4
5-speed manual RWD
The 4 cyl specifically for a truck is great. According to my computerized Scanguage I am getting a consistent 21-25 mpg per tank with all around driving and commuting. 21 gallong tank.
2006 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic RWD
At the time of purchase, it had the best gas mileage of all the small trucks I looked at. (Ford, Chevy, Mazda, GMC)

2010 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6

less than 20 mpg
2008 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
6-speed manual 4WD, part-time w/low range
The one I test drove was a 4 wheel drive with a V6 and its gas mileage was worse than my 4 cylinder 2WD.
2007 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic 4WD, part-time w/low range
Its terrible.
2007 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 236-horsepower 4.0L V6
6-speed manual 4WD, part-time w/low range
close to 16-17 in town, which is on par with a fullsize v8
2007 2dr Regular Cab 6ft bed 159-horsepower 2.7L I4
4-speed automatic RWD
23 mpg on the highway at 55 mph. This is vs. the 1993 toyata truck which regularly got 30+ mpg.
2005 4dr Crew Cab 5ft bed 245-horsepower 4.0L V6
5-speed automatic 4WD, part-time w/low range
I expected better fuel economy for a small truck. But none of the trucks get good economy. The manufacturers need to get with the program on truck fuel economy.
