What Our Members Are Saying about Subaru Forester Materials and Workmanship

Available Features of the Subaru Forester: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2009 4dr SUV 170-horsepower 2.5L H4
5-speed manual AWD
Generally seems like a well built car (except the silver plastic trim on the dash).
2006 4dr SUV 173-horsepower 2.5L H4
4-speed automatic AWD
Well though out materials.
2002 4dr SUV 165-horsepower 2.5L H4
4-speed automatic AWD
Quality all around; nice interior materials which have proved durable as well. Fit and finish are excellent. Exterior has held up well also.
Materials and Workmanship of the Subaru Forester: Cons
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2010 4dr SUV turbocharged 224hp 2.5L H4
4-speed shiftable automatic AWD
I fully agree with previous report/survey: hard plastics on this generation for dashboard
2009 4dr SUV 170-horsepower 2.5L H4
5-speed manual AWD
After seeing the upgrade in material quality in actual Legacy from previous gen Legacy I would have hoped that the dash and door panel of the 2009 Forester were of the same high quality plastics. Plastics of the Forester feel thin and are scratch prone.
2009 4dr SUV turbocharged 224hp 2.5L H4
4-speed shiftable automatic AWD
Dash and headliner prone to squeaks and rattles, too much easy-to-scratch hard plastic.
2005 4dr SUV 165-horsepower 2.5L H4
5-speed manual AWD
We needed to replace the struts just before the warranty expired. We also needed to replace the ball joints, the bearings quite a bit. There was an issue with leak in the motor but that was under warranty and it was fixed.
2004 4dr SUV 165-horsepower 2.5L H4
4-speed automatic AWD
After 50k miles, lots of ticks and clicks from dashboard panels and rear panels.
