Love the Avalon! A member from Texas, United States Best Reason to Buy the Toyota Avalon: Fuel economy Excellent mileage the entire 8 years I have owned this car. Usually I get 22-24 in town and well over 32 on the highway sometimes up to 35 mpg if I keep at 65 when the RPM runs around 2000. Best Reason Not to Buy the Toyota Avalon: Controls and instruments The only criticism I have of this terrific car is that after nearly 8 years the lettering on some of the control buttons to operate the Heating and cooling system has worn off. Toyota does not sell replacment buttons only the entire insturment panel for about $1000. No thanks! Currently, I have some 120,000 miles on this car and plan to use it until my end of life. A member from United Arab Emirates Best Reason to Buy the Toyota Avalon: Powertrain performance Very smooth and quiet, surprising get up and go. Gas mileage is just as advertised. Keep your foot out of it and you can go 26 in mixed and edge 30 on the highway. The smoothness is a major achievement in this car. Super serene drive. Best Reason Not to Buy the Toyota Avalon: Exterior styling Nothing to dislike but as some have pointed out it is not a BMW. It does not attract attention, but it is not ugly either. I like it for the same reason I like the Camry - quiet and conservative - and likely to look good in 10 years. This was well reflected in the Avalon. For an upscale car, the fit and finish were quite poor. No comparison with the Genesis.
