| 2013 | 4dr Wagon 173-horsepower 2.5L H4 6-speed shiftable CVT AWD |
Drive approx 70% rural highway / 30% city and getting 27 MPG on first oil. Mileage is improving. |
| 2012 | 4dr Wagon 170-horsepower 2.5L H4 6-speed shiftable CVT AWD |
Fuel economy is great, on the highway at 70mph I get in the summer around 30-33mpg, winter it drops to around 27 ( board computer after refill with a warm engine). Combined 10% city, 20% suburb and 70% highway it's a 25-28mpg with relaxed driving. Fully loaded doesn't seem do make a big impact, AC set usually around 65 in winter and 72 in summer. |
| 2011 | 4dr Wagon 256-horsepower 3.6L H6 5-speed shiftable automatic AWD |
Uses Regular Gas and Gets around 19 MPG in City |
| 2011 | 4dr Wagon 256-horsepower 3.6L H6 5-speed shiftable automatic AWD |
Compared to the full size p/u I was driving it is fantastic. Getting just over 21 in mostly stop and go suburban driving. Figure it will get better with age. Only had a couple tanks of gas so far. Only one measured. |
| 2011 | 4dr Wagon 170-horsepower 2.5L H4 6-speed shiftable CVT AWD |
Getting > than sticker MPG right out of the dealers lot. The CVT really rewards soft steady gas peddle. |
| 2011 | 4dr Wagon 170-horsepower 2.5L H4 6-speed shiftable CVT AWD |
So far getting 25MPG in mixed driving which is great for an AWD vehicle in our hilly areas here. |
| 2010 | 4dr Wagon 170-horsepower 2.5L H4 6-speed manual AWD |
Right now I am getting about 27mpg, which is just about the same as my VW 1.8t engine was getting when I traded it in. |
| 2010 | 4dr Wagon 170-horsepower 2.5L H4 6-speed shiftable CVT AWD |
Highway mileage with CVT. |
| 2010 | 4dr Wagon 170-horsepower 2.5L H4 6-speed shiftable CVT AWD |
I consistently get 29 to 30 mpg. |
| 2010 | 4dr Wagon 170-horsepower 2.5L H4 6-speed shiftable CVT AWD |
31 mpg on twisty 2 lane roads going through Oregon coast and Cascades. Not bad for an AWD loaded with gear and people. |
| 2010 | 4dr Wagon 170-horsepower 2.5L H4 6-speed shiftable CVT AWD |
Gets decent (18-28mpg) gas mileage for an suv that hauls groceries and kids and is a daily driver, snow, sleet or rain, every day. |
| 2010 | 4dr Wagon 256-horsepower 3.6L H6 5-speed shiftable automatic AWD |
For a heavy-ish car with a 3.6l six, I have been getting remarkable mileage. 24-26 overall in mixed driving. |
| 2010 | 4dr Wagon 170-horsepower 2.5L H4 6-speed shiftable CVT AWD |
I like that my 2.5l CVT can be run with regular gas or higher octane premium fules. This gives me a wide range of choices when fuleing. Being my commute to work is 35 miles I love the highway mpg I can attain while still having all wheel drive. |
| 2010 | 4dr Wagon 170-horsepower 2.5L H4 6-speed shiftable CVT AWD |
28MPG on an all wheel drive vehicle with 8" of ground clearance is tough to beat. Especially since I'm averaging 32 on the highway! |
| 2008 | 4dr Wagon 170-horsepower 2.5L H4 4-speed shiftable automatic AWD |
Pretty good, My 2008 gets better milage than my 2003 with the same diplacement engine. |
| 2008 | 4dr Wagon 170-horsepower 2.5L H4 4-speed shiftable automatic AWD |
It takes regular gas. Mileage is better than my previous Volvo. |
| 2008 | 4dr Wagon 170-horsepower 2.5L H4 5-speed manual AWD |
Considering the passenger and cargo capacity I am pleased to get 25.8 mpg mixed local and mountain driving. I am amazed to get 31 - 33 mpg cruising on the interstate at 70 - 80 mph. |
| 2008 | 4dr Wagon 170-horsepower 2.5L H4 4-speed shiftable automatic AWD |
for a 4X4, this car is great. 27 MPH! |
| 2007 | 4dr Sedan 175-horsepower 2.5L H4 4-speed shiftable automatic AWD |
27 to 30 on high way |
| 2003 | 4dr Wagon 165-horsepower 2.5L H4 4-speed automatic AWD |
It was better than that of an SUV or truck but still has AWD and cargo capacity. Not as good as other cars, but still beats most SUVS out there. |

| 2011 | 4dr Wagon 170-horsepower 2.5L H4 6-speed shiftable CVT AWD |
The 2013 is supposed to get a few more MPG's in the city and highway. Not really a big deal, but every bit helps. For a large vehicle with AWD, the Outback is unbeatable in MPG. |
| 2011 | 4dr Wagon 170-horsepower 2.5L H4 6-speed shiftable CVT AWD |
I would like to see mpg much higher than 22/29. |
| 2009 | 4dr Wagon 170-horsepower 2.5L H4 4-speed shiftable automatic AWD |
AWD definately cost you a few on gas mileage so FWD vehicles worth more of a look if you live in warm climate or only rarely off pavement |
| 2007 | 4dr Wagon 175-horsepower 2.5L H4 4-speed shiftable automatic AWD |
All wheel drive is nice on certain occasions, but I've been disappointed in the fuel economy of this car. |
| 2007 | 4dr Wagon 245-horsepower 3.0L H6 5-speed shiftable automatic AWD |
Six cylinders matched to full-time AWD makes for a thristy ride. Ability to shut off AWD in certain aspects would be beneficial in some circumstances. The turbocharger requires extra maintenance and premium gas. The I4 is the way to go. |
| 2005 | 4dr Wagon turbocharged 250hp 2.5L H4 5-speed shiftable automatic AWD |
With gas at almost $4/gal, and driving lots of miles, long distance, I would love to get better than 26 MPG on the highway. I am going to slow down though, and I still do love the turbo. |
| 2003 | 4dr Wagon 212-horsepower 3.0L H6 4-speed automatic AWD |
For a car this size, they should be able to get better mileage |
