Value All wheel drive, needs interior refinement A member from Maryland, United States Best Reason to Buy the Subaru Impreza / WRX / Outback Sport: Handling You can't find a better car for $22k that has as any form of all wheel drive off the lot brand new. This car will drive in 4"+ of snow on stock Potenza's without fail. And in the summer, it's just as fun through tight corners on the mountain roads that were iced over just months before. Best Reason Not to Buy the Subaru Impreza / WRX / Outback Sport: Powertrain performance The 4 speed auto does not perform efficiently, although it is fast to shift and quite bulletproof. WRX- Best bang for the buck but at a premium. Having driven naturally aspirated vehicle all my life, having turbo boost is a beautiful thing! It is a wonderful and welcome addition for the daily driver. Add a few modifications and the thrills never end. Keep in mind that a stock 5 speed manual will launch much quicker than a stock 4EAT automatic transmission. Best Reason Not to Buy the Subaru Impreza / WRX / Outback Sport: Powertrain performance Subaru's 4EAT automatic transmission and its internal gearing is not the best for those seeking performance. The 4EAT seems to be a bit mismatched when linked to a turbocharged engine. Buy a 5 speed manual if this is you’re your after. Not the most even tempered of transmissions. Sometimes slow to downshift and can sometimes be a bit stubborn and hesitate to downshift back down into 1st from a very brief stopping situation. Good, practical if uninspiring A member from New Jersey, United States Best Reason to Buy the Subaru Impreza / WRX / Outback Sport: Reliability & durability Ultimately it was Subaru's predicted reliability past 50,000 miles that had us make our final decision between this car and a Volkswagen (Jetta or Passat). Best Reason Not to Buy the Subaru Impreza / WRX / Outback Sport: Powertrain performance Although I am generally very light on the throttle, my wife and I really wish this car had a little more power on tap when needed and that the CVT would wait a little longer before backing off into fuel saver revs when accelerating gently. Secondly, we experience a substantial delay before forward gear is engaged when transitioning between reverse and drive. The new body style mimics the STi and is a nice feast for the eyes. Best Reason Not to Buy the Subaru Impreza / WRX / Outback Sport: Past personal experience Once upon a time I wrecked a Subaru. I managed to survive an otherwise mortal crash. On top of that my family has driven the lugnuts off of subarus with hardly a problem mechanically. I preferred the Subaru's modest and clean interior lines. The subaru is more open and less claustrophobic as well. Only 1 recall for fuel tank fixed 1 day with MFG warranty. Practically superb durability for econ car.
