Since I bought this used and near the end of the model year, it was priced very favorably. The payments were well below that of a similiar offering from another company.

The base price is not too bad, but moving up trim levels and adding options can increase that as much as 80%. Still, fully equipped, it’s over $5,000 less than a comparable Lexus RX.

pay for what you get. good bang for the buck.

In the summer of 2007, I bought this car from a Lincoln-Mercury dealership that had taken it in trade - for $8,995. The car was (and still is) in excellent condition.

Climate control & stereo system in base model. Rear wipers and defrost should be standard. Rear window becomes translucent with heavy rain or snow, which can be cleared easily by 1-3 wiper cycles.
20034dr Hatch 130-horsepower 1.8L I4

The Matrix was an affordable car. At the time, there were very few options under $20k that met all our needs.

2010 4dr SUV 265-horsepower 3.5L V6

Fit and Finish were a vast improvement from the past and surprising given the price. Enough sound absorbing materials were used to make this a quiet ride. All panels and trim fit extremely well. Seats dash, instruments and HID lights are of high quality!
2010 4dr SUV 265-horsepower 3.5L V6

All are top notch look and feel.

2007 4dr SUV 245-horsepower 3.5L V6

It is well made. I love the aluminum accents. The leather interior is of good quality. The little compartments in the console pop open and are very cool. The door shuts with a whoosh. The seats fit me so well. It is just perfectly put together!
2007 4dr SUV 245-horsepower 3.5L V6

It appears to be first class.
2005 4dr SUV 245-horsepower 3.5L V6

DID NOT SEEM TO PLASTIC, LEATHER WAS GOOD QUALITY FELT LIKE A LUXURY VEHICLE.

2004 4dr SUV 245-horsepower 3.5L V6

Unfortunately, workmanship leaves ALOT to be desired. Over the past 8 years, I have replaced 2 door handles that broke off, 3 door locks that quit working, Bose 6 CD changer quit after 3 years, driver's visor broke after 3 years and is Velcroed to the headliner, sunroof has started leaking recently,AWD button broke (and is used maybe twice a year) driver's seat is broken. Back hatch release quit working. Getting close to 120,000 mile transmission warranty and seriously thinking it is time to trade this car in!
2003 4dr SUV 245-horsepower 3.5L V6
CVT AWD
too many cheap bits, the doors are wearing out at 50k miles, the carpet and plastics have not worn well, the bumpers are too easily scratched, paint has come off roof rack, too many squeeks and rattles

2007 4dr Hatch 126-horsepower 1.8L I4

Solid. Good workmanship. I also like the plastic floor in the cargo area, which is easy to clean after transporting a muddy dog.
2003 4dr Hatch 130-horsepower 1.8L I4

Feels solid and of a high quality
Materials and Workmanship of the Toyota Matrix: Cons

2009 4dr Hatch 158-horsepower 2.4L I4
5-speed shiftable automatic FWD
Uninspired and the options when going from S to the XRS only seemed to focus on the musical components and tire profiles.
2007 4dr Hatch 126-horsepower 1.8L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
low quality plastics. rattles from the first day of ownership. low quality material of steering wheel - becomes very cold during the winter. low quality fabric on chairs. very cheap and unsuitable OEM tires. car is shaking on neutral like crazy. :-(
2007 4dr Hatch 126-horsepower 1.8L I4
4-speed automatic FWD
rattles, from the first day. quality of workmanship and assembly was so poor. car was vibrating on idle like an old tractor. tried to fix the rattles - it was impossible. the dealer was useless and helpless as well. miserable car.
2006 4dr Hatch 118-horsepower 1.8L I4
4-speed automatic AWD
Cheap paint chips way too easy on front bumper and hood.
2004 4dr Hatch 173-horsepower 1.8L I4
6-speed manual FWD
Rattles galore on the interior. Car body was assembled incorrectly and resulted in a rubbing noise that required Toyota to cut out and replace entire A pillar from roof to rocker panel. Got rid of the car after as the warranty expired due to this issue.
2003 4dr Hatch 180-horsepower 1.8L I4
6-speed manual FWD
it was sloppily put together at the factory and was never a pleasant car to be in. Chrome bits on the dash were blinding.
2003 4dr Hatch 130-horsepower 1.8L I4
5-speed manual FWD
The interior is lined by a softish plastic; easily scored, marred, and scratched. However, for the cheap material, the trim and fit is tight.
