Lexus GS 350 vs. Mercedes Benz E320 Bluetec A member from Texas, United States Compared to 2009 Lexus GS (Pearl) Best Reason to Buy the Mercedes-Benz E-Class: Quietness The cabin is quite hushed with no wind noise and only a little tire whine from the concrete highway. I went to the dealer intending to buy a W211 (2009) MB E320 Bluetec but the MB was disappointingly loud at highway speeds and the clatter of the diesel engine protruded into the cabin at low speeds. I also test drove a Cadillac CTS Wagon on the same day. It was much quieter than the MB and a bit louder than the Lexus. Best Reason Not to Buy the Mercedes-Benz E-Class: Driving position & visibility The seating position is a bit low for my taste and it has taken me some time to find a comfortable driving position. My brief search on the interwebz reveals that I may be alone in this opinion. Leg room is good, and the adjustable lumbar support is adequate. Compared to the full-sized SUV I traded in for it, I do feel like I am sitting on the floor. Nice Vehicle, Diesel makes it great A member from Delaware, United States Compared to 2009 Lexus GS (Pearl) Best Reason to Buy the Mercedes-Benz E-Class: Fuel economy Diesel delivers 40+ MPG at reasonable (70 mpg) highway speed, around 29 mpg around town. Diesel is quiet and powerful. Acceleration is awesome. Average 575 miles per tank. Best Reason Not to Buy the Mercedes-Benz E-Class: Audio & nav systems The user interface is terrible. Programming Nav can be frustrating. Vastly improved in the newer cars. Sirrus radio channels will blank out for extended periods with high regularity. Have had the central control unit replaced twice under warranty. Have Sport model, the AMG wheels and body moulding very sharp. Capri Blue is best blue, metallic paint has a depth and glow we love. Best Reason Not to Buy the Mercedes-Benz E-Class: Ride smoothness I have the Sport model, and the ride is firmer than I'd like. Wish this had the adjustable suspension like S class offers. Best Reason Not to Buy the Mercedes-Benz E-Class: Powertrain performance The steering wheel DOES NOT come back on center after a slow turn. You have to physically turn the wheel back. Something you have to get used to.
