Mazda Rx8 A member from Virginia, United States Best Reason to Buy the Mazda RX-8: Handling The Rx8 has precise handling abilities. It has an instantaneous response from steering wheel input. At highway speeds the car feels planted to the road surface as you change lanes or cruise around a mountain pass. The small size of the rotary engine allows the engine to be mounted low and nearly completely behind the front wheels. This gives the Rx8 perfect 50:50 weight distribution. Best Reason Not to Buy the Mazda RX-8: Fuel economy For a small engine displacement and a relatively light vehicle weight, the gas mileage is weak. I usualy get around 19mpg, and that does not realy matter if I am doing all city or all highway driving. I think the real problem is in the sixth gear it isnt much different than fifth gear so it does not provide good fuel economy. Best Reason Not to Buy the Mazda RX-8: Dealership practices Service departments not that knowledgeable about the rotary. Have two dealers in my area and none of them can do a compression check on the rotary engine. There is nothing I hate more than under lighting and flame kits on exhausts and the RX-8 fall smack dab into that category. I am below average in size as a male, and my wife is also very small and we found the bolsters cut into our hips far more than was comfortable. The seats are racing oriented only. A member from Arizona, United States Best Reason to Buy the Mazda RX-8: Handling Like a go-cart, the car goes where you point it accurately, immediately and with no hesitation. With too much throttle in a corner the TCS keeps the tail from coming around. I feel very confident driving this car aggressively. Best Reason Not to Buy the Mazda RX-8: Driving position & visibility The 3/4 view requires more head-turning than I am comfortable with, due to my bad spine. Also egress is difficult for a non-agile person.
