The perfect car for me and my family

Best Reason to Buy the Mazda Protege: Feature availability
I wanted a 4-door hatchback (best balance between cargo space, passenger space, fuel economy, maneuverability, etc.) I also wanted a 5-speed manual transmission because it forces me to stay focused on driving (not to mention, it's more fun and better on gas!)

Best Reason Not to Buy the Mazda Protege: Rear seat room & comfort
The backseat is a little tight, so it would not be comfortable for a large person or for a long drive. Thankfully, my husband and I are on the small side, and our daughter is pretty tiny too, so it doesn't really bother us at all.

Best Reason to Buy the Mazda Protege: Price or payments
(I am trying to edit my review- not sure if that is what I am doing, so if this is a duplicate review, I am sorry.) <br />
In 2007, my trusty Ford Ranger finally but the dust (although I would replace the motor) after over 300,000 miles. I narrowed my choice down to the Mazda 6, Mazda 3 and Progete5, and decided to buy the first good deal on any one of them that came along. I turned out to be the P5, and I am happy it happened that way. If a 3 or 6 had &quot;presented it&#039;s self&quot; I would have gone that way. I believe the P5, being somewhat rare (only imported to NOrth America in 02 and 03) is relatively unknown. Pity, both that it was not available earlier, and that it is often overlooked- in many ways it is a better car and a better value than it&#039;s sedan brother, the Protege.

Best Reason Not to Buy the Mazda Protege: Rear seat room & comfort
Hey, it&#039;s a small car. Which results in a, well, small car- inside. Like most makers, Mazda puts higher priority on front seat room than rear. Logical- most small-car owners have small families, either in number or physical size. What are you gonna do?

Best Reason to Buy the Mazda Protege: Powertrain performance
The power train is a lot of fun. Paired to a 5-speed manual transmission, the Protege5 can be a lot of fun to drive considering it is essentially a reasonably priced "economy" car.

Best Reason to Buy the Mazda Protege: Handling
The steering is well weighted. The car has very good grip, 0.86g in lateral acceleration to be exact. The car feels very planted, even on snow or ice

Best Reason Not to Buy the Mazda Protege: Price or payments
The Car was quite expensive compared to similar aged American cars, but you get what you pay for, as the old adage goes.

Best Reason to Buy the Mazda Protege: Reliability & durability
I bought my Protege5 wish 50,000 miles and it now has just under 110,000. I have not had a single problem with the car and cannot foresee one occuring anytime soon. I am very happy with the reliability of my car.

Best Reason Not to Buy the Mazda Protege: Powertrain performance
Unfortunately Mazdaspeed was quite rushed when developing this car and so it suffers from a few issues. The motor was not reinforced to handle the turbocharger, and may break. The LSD tends to snap if not repaired early. And the wastegates fail.
