New models often start out with high repair rates, and then improve as the manufacturer identifies and addresses common problems. MethodologyOnly successfully completed repairs are currently included in the analysis. Routine maintenance, most wear items, recalls, and problems fixed with just a reflash or warning light reset are not included.

Nothing has gone wrong so far... |
| 2006 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 274hp 2.3L I4 6-speed manual AWD |
The Speed6 has been very reliable, no major repairs, even under warranty. Have an intermittent front suspension squeak with the upper and lower control arms, just haven't had it fixed yet since it's harmless. Brakes and clutch are original. |
| 2006 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 274hp 2.3L I4 6-speed manual AWD |
In 25K miles, I experienced one check engine light, and a powerloss issue once that was corrected with a recall. Most reliable car I ever owned. |
| 2005 | 4dr Hatch 160-horsepower 2.3L I4 5-speed manual FWD |
Have owned for over 4 years, 100k miles now, with no major problems. |

I have 18 warranty claims in the first year of ownership. Problems started after 6 months (10K miles) of ownnership. |
| 2006 | 4dr Sedan turbocharged 274hp 2.3L I4 6-speed manual AWD |
Far too many horror stories about the engine throwing a rod, with or without modifications. Also, many turbos are known to smoke, but Mazda does nothing about the situation. |
| 2004 | 4dr Sedan 160-horsepower 2.3L I4 5-speed manual FWD |
interior out of cheap plastic that easily scratches, seat foam partially collapsed, annual caliper lube required, bought the car as a 5year lease return w/ 84 000 km, now getting close to 9years 135 000km, replaced suspension bushings/ball joints from day1, clutch at 125k, no holes yet but plenty of rust, haven't been able to track down a couple of noises, might have been there since new, doing almost as much work on the car as on my 19year old 340 000km Volvo 850 though the Volvo is easier & more fun to work on, this Mazda isn't designed to receive any more than the most urgent maintenance with a design lifespan around 10years/250 000km, whichever comes 1st... |
