A member from Maryland, United States Best Reason to Buy the Hyundai Elantra: Reliability & durability I bought this car new in Nov, 2003 and still have it. Other than routine maintenance including 2 timing belt replacements (preventative) at 66K and 125K. Major problems: The radiator began leaking at 98K miles and was replaced. Also had to replace a power steering belt in 2009 at about 90K. One headlamp cover seal now needs to be replaced and the seal for the driver side window is loosening and needs replacing. Overall, a very good, reliable car. Just turned 135K. Highly recommended as a used car. I would buy another Elantra. 2013 Elantra Limited Review A member from Wisconsin, United States Best Reason to Buy the Hyundai Elantra: Interior styling Both the exterior and interior styling of this car and the entire line of Hyundai's, I find very appealing. The interior combines beauty with a logical and ergonomical layout of controls and functions. The leather seats are very comfortable and the interior leg room (both front & back) is excellent. Best Reason Not to Buy the Hyundai Elantra: Front seat support & comfort This is really not a con. If they offered the option of a front passenger power seat with lumbar as an option, I along with many others would likely opt for it. My honest review of the 2012 Elantra. A member from Missouri, United States Best Reason to Buy the Hyundai Elantra: Exterior styling I love the sporty look of the Elantra. The body molding is what originally drew me to the newer Elantras. Best Reason Not to Buy the Hyundai Elantra: Fuel economy This is one of the most disappointing aspects of the 2012. The Active Eco is no longer anautomatic feature, and I've found I don't get the great gas mileage that I used to. I would consistently get 40mpg highway, and about 30 mpg in the city. Now I get 32 highway, 28 city. My parents live an hour and a half away, and I have other family living further away. I find it frustrating that I don't get the great mileage I did previously, especially since gas prices just keep going up. A member from California, United States Best Reason to Buy the Hyundai Elantra: Fuel economy After the first 10K miles, the AVERAGE MPG has risen from the low 20's to the high 20's on my average commute, but is nowhere near the advertised efficiencies. Couldn\'t do that with the last car, unless I could find pure gas (no ethanol). With the Elantra I\'m getting 40 mpg mixed driving with ethanol. Best Reason Not to Buy the Hyundai Elantra: Quietness 65+ mph and you hear the tires pounding on the pavement so I need to increase audio volume 3+. Better interior carpeting in cabin floor could have quieted this (however, thicker carpeting would probably result in more weight and less fuel economy??) Best Reason Not to Buy the Hyundai Elantra: Handling The steering feels very vague, very little feedback from the road. Going around long bends you have to constantly adjust/readjust steering input.
