What Our Members Are Saying about Dodge Grand Caravan Reliability and Durability

Reliability and Durability of the Dodge Grand Caravan: Pros
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2009 4dr Minivan, ext. 175-horsepower 3.3L V6
4-speed shiftable automatic FWD
Rock solid reputation and came with lifetime warranty, should I need help in 15 or 20 years.
2009 4dr Minivan, ext. 197-horsepower 3.8L V6
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
Requires very little maintenance and routine maintenance much less expensive than the Toyota Sienna.
2008 4dr Minivan, ext. 175-horsepower 3.3L V6
4-speed shiftable automatic FWD
While a little too soon to tell on our 2008, we have had nothing but great luck with our previous Caravans as noted in our past personal experience comments.
2008 4dr Minivan, ext. 197-horsepower 3.8L V6
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
Price, reliability, past experience, ride quality compared to comp vehicles, available features, kid friendly, outstanding safety features including front, side and knee airbags, antilock brakes, stability control, 5 star crash ratings. Bests the others.
2007 4dr Minivan, ext. 200-horsepower 3.8L V6
4-speed automatic FWD
I HAVE IT SINCE MAY 1 2007-NO MAJOR-ENGINE -TRANS- REPAIR-ALMOST 75000 MILES
2002 4dr Minivan, ext. 180-horsepower 3.3L V6
4-speed automatic FWD
Some good friends had one for several years with 125k mileage and no major problems with it. The 2002 Grand Caravans had a better owner satisfaction rating than Ford or GM vans
Reliability and Durability of the Dodge Grand Caravan: Cons
YearBody/PowertrainComment
2009 4dr Minivan, ext. 251-horsepower 4.0L V6
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
Very unreliable as one can tell. Again I paid for a vehicle that is unsafe to drive and in the shop more than on the road. Also, so many other issues that just keep happening one after another. I take care of my vehicles...yet this one is a sad case!
2009 4dr Minivan, ext. 197-horsepower 3.8L V6
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
SE vs. SXT. SXT Power doors and convenience electronics add more complexity and less reliability. Tranny gasket almost always leaked in the past. Previous to 2008 the pulleys had no shoulders so the belt fell off frequently - TG they changed that
2008 4dr Minivan, ext. 175-horsepower 3.3L V6
4-speed shiftable automatic FWD
Any van that could vent carbon monoxide into the cabin has serious issues. Also, Dodge has a history of poor reliability.
2008 4dr Minivan, ext. 197-horsepower 3.8L V6
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
Found that they are still using the same electronically-controlled 4-speed that has been a perennial nightmare since the late eighties. Fit and finish is poor.
2008 4dr Minivan, ext. 251-horsepower 4.0L V6
6-speed shiftable automatic FWD
They have a history of transmission failure that has not been addressed in the last 20 years.
2007 4dr Minivan 180-horsepower 3.3L V6
4-speed automatic FWD
Owned an earlier model Caravan and had considerable trouble with water leaks, and transmission problems. They were covered by warranty but as soon as warranty expired, started having transmission problems again
2007 4dr Minivan 180-horsepower 3.3L V6
4-speed automatic FWD
For years I have heard there are lots of problems with the caravans, especially the transmissions. They did not get great reviews until 2008 which was out of our price range.
2005 4dr Minivan, ext. 180-horsepower 3.3L V6
4-speed automatic FWD
So So
2005 4dr Minivan, ext. 180-horsepower 3.3L V6
4-speed automatic FWD
Still not expecting miracles. Probably have to replace the transmission at one point.
2005 4dr Minivan, ext. 207-horsepower 3.8L V6
4-speed automatic FWD
Engine uses almost 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles. Dodge says this is "normal". Had to switch to synthetic oil to minimize problems. Makes me question long term durability of the engine. Had front end problems early on (tie rod ends, struts and strut mount
2004 4dr Minivan 180-horsepower 3.3L V6
4-speed automatic FWD
Dodge has had issues with its automatic transmissions. Also, do not have much experience owning a North American built mini-van.
