Two new engines, rebuilt transmission etc. The Silverados my friends have owned for years have been very reliable. A member from California, United States Best Reason to Buy the Chevrolet Silverado 1500: Reliability & durability I decided on the Silverado because of its reliable 5.3L engine, which there are Chevrolets with these engines with over 200k still on the road; I also went with the Silverado because of my past experience with Chevrolets Best Reason Not to Buy the Chevrolet Silverado 1500: Materials & workmanship This year vehicle has 2 TSB issues: steering wheel clunk and squeaky seats. Both have been fixed but there are other groans and squeaks beginning to develop. The truck gets 26 mpg on the highway! The average for the truck with over 6000 miles city/highway is now 20.6! LTZ model has a car like interior thats very comfortable on long trips. I still look forward to driveing it even after 2 years. Even more so when Chevrolet updated the grille and hood for 2006. Also, it is a normal-sized 1/2 ton...not the jumbo size that the F-150 is. Best Reason Not to Buy the Chevrolet Silverado 1500: Materials & workmanship The dash materials could be better...but it is not a major thing. The top of the dash uses very hollow, cold and hard plastic. And the radio surround is very cheap as well..but again, these are small gripes.
