2010 Chevy Equinox purchased at Concord, (CA) Chev A member from California, United States Best Reason to Buy the Chevrolet Equinox: Reliability & durability So far, right at 3 yrs./36K mi., our 2010 Chevy Equinox has been: 1. Very reliable and durable 2. No oil use 3. Timing chain A OK. 4. Excellent mileage-in town 23-26 Mpg. highway (2K rpm/ 60-63 MPH) 29-36 MPG. 5. Using AMSOIL XL motor oil (5W-30 or 10W-30 OK here in CA) abd Nano-fiber in-line cartridge oil filters has really helped. OCI-10-13K/1 year. Filter changes: 7K/6-7 mos./then 4-5K/3-4mo./ then 2K-2 mo. max. The On-Line Oil Monitoring System (ONLMS)is working great--indicating 8% oil life left after 12,400 mi./1 year). Best Reason Not to Buy the Chevrolet Equinox: Driving position & visibility The one thing that "bothers" us about the current generation (2010-present) of the Chevy Equinox are the rear side "blind spots" because of the thick rear pillars. These "blind spots" force one to rely too much on the rear-view mirror and the two outside mirrors,esp. the right side outside mirror which may not give one a true distance of how close or far away the vehicle on your right is to this vehicle. Great smaller SUV A member from Texas, United States Best Reason to Buy the Chevrolet Equinox: Exterior styling The exterior styling is what drove me to test drive the Equinox when I was shopping for a smaller SUV. To me it just far outclassed the competition at the time, and is still one of the better looking CUV's out there. Best Reason Not to Buy the Chevrolet Equinox: Front seat room I like the firmness of the front seats, but others may have an issue with it. Seat width leans to the narrow side however, and shoulder room is merely adequate. Not to bad for grandma driving straight down the interstate, but on a rough, twisty road that are bad. Dangerous is the best word for driving a front wheel drive hard on gravel. Best Reason Not to Buy the Chevrolet Equinox: Materials & workmanship When left outside during a rain storm, gallons of water will seep into the tire well. Had to have a profesionall glass company seel it, local mechanics wouldn't touch it. They always only mention highway milage and shun mentioning average of an awd Equinox for mpg. Also look at ratings for used Equinox on consumers reports for repair history. Best Reason Not to Buy the Chevrolet Equinox: Interior styling Extremely cheap. Poor quality of plastics and fitment. The plastics tend to break pretty easy, especially the covers for the mirrors in the visors, those broke on day one. Lots of road noise and rattles and squeaks. Also there is a liftable arm rest between the seats for storing purse, etc. which eliminates the need for reaching to the back when the passenger seat is occupied. Best Reason Not to Buy the Chevrolet Equinox: Warranty, scheduled maintenance cost 3 years 36,000 miles is not sufficient for a car of this quality. The product is good, so why not stand behind it with a 4 year, 50,000 mile warranty.
