Why the B6/7 S4 is a great car A member from Washington, United States Best Reason to Buy the Audi A4 / S4 / RS4: Exterior styling On H&R springs with wheels of an aggressive offset, the S4 has a ton of on the road presence. Of the 4 door sedans in this model year, it is hands down the best looking car out there...IMHO Best Reason Not to Buy the Audi A4 / S4 / RS4: Fuel economy If prices at the pump make your blood pressure rise, or make your wallet whimper...DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!<br /> City driving it will go through a tank in about 150 miles<br /> combined driving one tank is about 220 miles<br /> Highway driving, expect to see 350 to 400 miles from the 17 gallon tank. A member from New Hampshire, United States Best Reason to Buy the Audi A4 / S4 / RS4: Past personal experience I owned a 2006 A4 sedan with the 2.0T (BPG) engine and got 160,000 miles out of it without any real major problems I had to pay for. A problem with the high pressure fuel pump cost Audi about $2,000.00 to fix. I bought it as a CPO with 24,000 on it and traded it withabout 190,000. Best Reason Not to Buy the Audi A4 / S4 / RS4: Powertrain performance It uses oil. Not real bad, but more than my old Audi. Best Reason Not to Buy the Audi A4 / S4 / RS4: Reliability & durability Do not buy one of these used unless the timing chain pre-tensioners have been replaced. There are a lot of complaints of these breaking at 100,000 miles. Mine went at 99,100 miles and the dealer quoted me $10,000 to fix. I had to sell this car at a loss. What a waste! Although styling is subjective, but IMO it is one of the best looking vehicle in this segment Best Reason Not to Buy the Audi A4 / S4 / RS4: Ride smoothness Sport Package with 40 series tires makes a hard ride. Best Reason Not to Buy the Audi A4 / S4 / RS4: Safety & braking The brakes are oversized, so braking is excellent.. However, the brake pedal and car shudders when you are about 60 percent through the life of the brakes. The dealer tells me this is normal - I don't think so, I have never hasd a car do this. Best Reason Not to Buy the Audi A4 / S4 / RS4: Controls and instruments Hard to find the garage door opener button at night. The lighting is too subtle. Best Reason Not to Buy the Audi A4 / S4 / RS4: Rear seat room & comfort Very tight leg room in back. Shoulder room for 2 adults comfortably. The pillar and door hinge intrude into the rear door opening making exiting the car a squeeze.
